Best-selling author and internationally renowned expert on children's chess Richard James
offers a very different approach to teaching your children chess.

At CHESS FOR HEROES we don't see chess as a game for children, rather as a game for adults at which some children can excel. We don't see chess as a fun game, rather as a serious game where the fun comes from challenging yourself to learn difficult skills, seeing how good you can get, taking part in competitions and making new friends who share your interest.

Whether you're a parent or a teacher we'd encourage you to give your children the gift of chess.

Here's how it works.

If you're not sure of the rules youself, start by downloading our free Beginners' Guide so that you can learn the game yourself and teach your children the rules of the game. You'll need a full size set and board with the coordinates indicated round the edges.

If you're not sure whether or not your children are ready for a complete game, play some of the pre-chess games with them.

If they (or you) want to play a game, you can take on our computer program which will, while it plays the game, notate the game so that you can replay it afterwards.

Then, you can download a copy of the first volume of our unique CHESS FOR HEROES course.
